Are you covered by your insurance policy for using a stove
Recently there’s been a boom in wood and multi-fuel stoves but did you know that thatch property owner may have to declare their stoves to their insurers and may also face an increased premium.
Recently, a Kent couple featured in The Sunday Times having replaced open fires with stoves. Their insurers (NFU) increased the annual premium by £300 (for 2 stoves) due to the increased risk.
Thatched property insurers have very strict rules about stove installation and we highly recommend you use HETAS qualified engineers and approved appliances. There is no doubt though that a stove in a thatched property is just about as good as it gets when it comes to home comfort!
