About Padfield Master Thatchers
Mark Padfield is a traditionally trained Master Thatcher who has spent many years learning this skilled craft. He served his apprenticeship under the watchful eyes of a 6th generation thatcher and 27 years later he still feels the same passion for the trade as he did when he first started.
Mark has a wealth of experience using a number of different materials from long straw, combed wheat reed, Norfolk (water) reed and unusually heather; a product which is used extensively in Scotland. All of the materials used are of the highest quality and importantly 90 per cent of them are grown organically making thatch an environmentally friendly product.
